Carp Removal in Green Lake

Usually occurring in late April, the 2019 harvest did not occur until later in May due to the slow warm up of the lake. Even with the poor weather conditions, 86,500 lbs. of carp were removed from the lake and 2,500 lbs. were removed from the County K Marsh. The continued efforts of the GLSD and the GLA to reduce carp in the marsh is becoming apparent from both the reduced size and numbers of carp found there.

2019 Lake Protection Grant – Green Lake County The WI DNR just announced that the Lake Protection Grant application submitted by the GLSD in February has been chosen for funding. The grant, written by Charlie Marks with the help of the GLA and Green Lake Co. Land Conservation Dept., was the highest ranked Protection Grant application in the state. The sudden passing of Charlie Marks on Friday, January 4th, 2019, was a tremendous loss to the Green Lake Sanitary District. The administrator of the GLSD for 22 years, Charlie accepted the administrator position in 1996, moving his family to the area from Waukesha. Big Green Lake Impairment Status

What is the Big Green Lake impairment? Big Green Lake was listed as impaired in 2014. The impairment is for unacceptable levels of Dissolved Oxygen at the lake’s Thermocline. The Thermocline is the area of the lake where the warm water meets the cold water, this is generally at a depth of 30 to 50 feet down from the water’s surface.
