These BMPs provide protection to the lake from unwanted runoff which is the primary source of nutrients getting into the lake. The primary nutrient of concern is Phosphorus.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Partnership with Fond du Lac County Land Conservation Department (FDLLCD)<\/strong> \u2013 the GLSD provides financial cost-share support to the FDLLCD for a multitude of nonpoint best management practices (BMPs) in the same manner as described above for Green Lake County.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_470\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-470\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-470\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Grass-lined Waterway\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2-135x100.jpg 135w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP2.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-470\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grass-lined Waterway<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n3. <strong>Contracts with Land Owners<\/strong> \u2013 the GLSD has a number of contracts with watershed land owners as well as conservancy properties that provide lake protection by keeping certain parcels of land in their native condition (prairie grasses) as opposed to agricultural production.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Ongoing Land Owner BMP Contracts<\/strong> \u2013 the GLSD requires all land owners receiving financial cost-sharing assistance to sign contracts to maintain their respective BMPs. Most of the BMPs have specific language (in the deed) requiring the land owners to maintain the BMPs in-perpetuity or pay back the BMP funding in-full. These contracts also obligate the Counties and the GLSD to inspect and maintain the BMPs in sound working order.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_474\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-474\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Sediment Control Basin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3-135x100.jpg 135w, https:\/\/www.glakesd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BMP3.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-474\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sediment Control Basin<\/figcaption><\/figure>The GLSD raises the needed funding for the BMPs described above through its annual tax levy as well as through state and federal grants.
