Lake Management Plan

In February of 2013, after 2+ years of work between ten dedicated organizations, the Wisconsin DNR approved a comprehensive LMP for Big Green Lake. Since the approval date, the partner organizations have obtained over $1,000,000 in funding to begin implementing the key components of the LMP, the primary goals & objectives of the LMP include:

1. Strategic Best Management Practices (BMPs) designed to reduce Ag runoff
2. Carp Barriers to reduce the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) fish & plants
3. AIS chemical Treatments to shallow water estuaries
4. Purchase of second Aquatic Plant Harvester
5. Updated and Improved lake & tributary monitoring program
6. Updated Watershed Computer Model
7. Updated Lake Computer Model
8. Urban Stormwater Plans
9. Updated Shoreline Restoration Program
10. Improvements to Environmentally Sensitive Conservancy Properties
11. Education and Information (virtual tour of watershed)

The LMP is a dynamic plan that will be improved/updated on a regular basis (annually) to continuously incorporate new lake and watershed activities as they become available or relevant to our particular resources.

In addition to the $1,000,000 already raised and committed to the LMP, our core LMP team members and partner organizations are currently working on our second round of funding which will include at least another million dollars of funding for LMP activities being implemented through 2017.

Our LMP partners include the following organizations:

* Green Lake Sanitary District
* Green Lake County Land Conservation
* Green Lake Conservancy
* Green Lake Association
* City of Green Lake
* City of Ripon
* Fond du Lac County Land Conservation
* Wisconsin DNR
* Most Importantly – The Public
